Are there any differences between the meaning of the words, "barrister" Solicitor, lawyer, attorney?

Actual definitions: Lawyer = someone who practices the act of law Attorney = someone that has been hired by a specific person to represent them in a law case. = so no, there really isn't a difference between these. Barrister adn Solicitors do not exist in the US, so I don't know if there is a difference or again, just rewording the same job.

Lawyer, solicitor or barrister?
i want to make a career decision and I would like to know which job earns the most on average...in some jobs you either earn lots and lots or not very much! =] so which job will garenty me a high wage....over £100K thankyou very much i would really like some help x

It depends a lot on the area of law in which you practice, whether you are self-employed or employed, and how long you've been working. See the sites below for solicitor's and barristers. Barristers seem to make more. There is no job title of lawyer per se in the UK.

Can you explain for me what is the difference between a lawyer, attorney, advocate, barrister, and solicitor?
Thank you very much

All of them are lawyers - practitioners of the law An attorney is the American word for lawyer, which in England and Wales (not sure about Scotland, different legal system) would be either a barrister (at the bar, ie in court, and belongs to one of the four Inns) or solicitor (works in an office, if you like, rather than defending or prosecuting in court, though he may appear in, e.g., magistrate's court) Advocate is another word for lawyer. So Perry Mason, for instance, was an attorney (lawyer, advocate) who'd have been called a barrister in the UK. !
