What,s the difference between a solicitor ,,a barrister and a lawyer.?
they all deal with the law but i am confused why the mix of names for a lawyer
Lawyer -- an attorney in the USA Barrister -- an attorney in the UK admitted to practice before the bar (e.g., at court) Solicitor -- an attorney in the UK that does not practice before the bar (business lawyer, corporate lawyer, any legal matters not involving civil litigation or criminal matters in court)
Can you explain for me what is the difference between a lawyer, attorney, advocate, barrister, and solicitor?
Thank you very much
All of them are lawyers - practitioners of the law An attorney is the American word for lawyer, which in England and Wales (not sure about Scotland, different legal system) would be either a barrister (at the bar, ie in court, and belongs to one of the four Inns) or solicitor (works in an office, if you like, rather than defending or prosecuting in court, though he may appear in, e.g., magistrate's court) Advocate is another word for lawyer. So Perry Mason, for instance, was an attorney (lawyer, advocate) who'd have been called a barrister in the UK. !
What is the difference in meaning between "lawyer", "Attorney", "barrister", "advocate" and "solicitor"?
what is the difference in meaning between "lawyer", "Attorney", "barrister", "advocate" and "solicitor"? can i use them interchangeably??
An attorney is someone appointed to act in your stead - as in "power of attorney" A lawyer is anybody who practices law. A solicitor deals with the client in most matters, the barrister deals with the court proceedings on instruction from the solicitor. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrister An advocate is basically anyone that acts on the behalf of some person or cause.
Are there any differences between the meaning of the words, "barrister" Solicitor, lawyer, attorney?
Actual definitions: Lawyer = someone who practices the act of law Attorney = someone that has been hired by a specific person to represent them in a law case. = so no, there really isn't a difference between these. Barrister adn Solicitors do not exist in the US, so I don't know if there is a difference or again, just rewording the same job.
